DG Statement

Zanzibar Ports Corporation (ZPC) is a parastatal organization established under the Act No. 1, 1997, passed by the House of Representatives.
ZPC is an autonomous organization which is responsible for managing, operating and developing ports of Zanzibar.
ZPC operates under the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communication and Transportation.

The major responsibilities as stipulated in the Act includes managing, operating, developing and promoting Port industry in Zanzibar.
ZPC is expected in particular to perform the role of an operator in terms of Commercial Activities of Port sector on the Island of Zanzibar (Unguja & Pemba).
The establishment of ZPC is a result of Government major restructuring program of the economy, started in the early 1990’s.
The principal objective of the program is to increase the economy’s capacity to produce and deliver goods and services, primarily through the private sector, strengthening the public sector’s ability to regulate the economy and reduce its role in production and businesses activities.
 
Zanzibar Port corporation (ZPC) signed a management service agreement which transferred full management of cargo services and operational responsibilities of Malindi Port to a Private Terminal Operator- Africa global logistics (AGL) registered in Zanzibar as Zanzibar multipurpose Terminal (ZMT).
ZPC signed the first official Public and Private Partnership (PPP) in Zanzibar to the company Fumba Port (FP) with aim of developing a fully operational port with modern equipment's.
 
Zanzibar Port corporation (ZPC) signed a contract with a private operator ZFDEVCO for the development of a new modern passenger Terminal in the Maruhubi Area.
 
ZPC has been invested 3.5 million USD to Mkoani Port to redevelop and repurpose the port from a Passenger Port to Containerized Port where the future plans to sign a contract with a private operator to invest and manage containerized cargo.
